Registrars

As accredited entities by ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers), Registrars play a pivotal role in the registration and management of Internet domain names. Serving as intermediaries, Registrars bridge the gap between individuals or organizations and the global Domain Name System (DNS), facilitating the conversion of user-friendly domain names into corresponding IP addresses.

TMCH and Registrars

Registrars play a crucial role during the Sunrise phase of a new gTLD (Top-Level Domain). During this phase, clients may approach you to request the registration of domain names. While the registration process remains familiar, Registrars will request clients to provide their Signed Mark Data (SMD) file. This file, provided by TMCH, verifies trademark rights and ensures compliance with domain registration policies.

Processing Claims Registrations

Registrars have specific technical obligations when processing Claims Registrations. These obligations are outlined in detail in the TMCH functional specifications. In essence, Registrars must verify domain name availability with the Registry Operator, obtain Claims Notice Information, and display the Trademark Notice to potential domain name registrants. This notice must be provided in real time, without cost, and in the specified format to ensure transparency and compliance with trademark regulations.

For more information on TMCH requirements and technical specifications, refer to the TMCH functional specifications.

Technical Support for Registrars

If you’re a Registrar with technical questions related to SMD revocation lists or Claims notifications, TMCH directs you to TMDB for assistance. Kyndryl (previously IBM) provides comprehensive support to Registrars, ensuring seamless integration and compliance with TMCH services.

Collaborate with TMCH
